Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Council Minutes

The Parish Council met at the Parish House January 3, 2008, @ 7:00pm.
Called to order by Maxine.
Opening prayer was led by Father Stephen, from the letter of Paul to the Ephesians. We are called to be dreamers...Watch
the Stars! Special prayer for the New Year read
by Teri.
Roll Call: All were present. No Youth member at this time.
Approval of November Council minutes by Roy, seconded by Martha.
Committee Reports:
1.Board of Education: Jackie--review written report.
Accreditation Process begins with the Self-Study to see if meet specific criteria; develop a long range plan;
Accreditation Team visits school.
Kelly Services is moving, so they donated Office furniture to the school. Boiler was repaired over the holiday
break; tunnel pipes insulated, but now condensation problem;
need damper for the chimney; scrubber for Parish Center works great; have new snow-blower; dishwasher exhaust
fan installed; coil for fifth grade room delivered; walk-in
freezer needs to be installed.
2. Faith Formation: Teri-"Why Catholic?" sign-up January 19th/20th.
Rite of Covenant is Sunday February 3rd.
Giving Tree recipients very grateful. We help others because we are Catholic!
Reminder Parish Christmas Open House for volunteers on January 4th 4-7pm.
3. Youth Ministry: Kristi -visit to Salvation Army a wonderful learning experience.
Youth into Liturgy -great way to keep the youth involved.
4. Finance: Karen &Jerry- 2006/2007 Side-by-Side Financial comparison shows for 2007 income decreased, but
so did expenses.
5. Gambling/Bingo: Jackie-Bingo license expires in April.
6. Liturgy: Maxine-Christmas Masses–9:00a.m. Mass schedule change confused people. They thought it was
@10:00. Other comments: Why only 2 Masses and
not 3? Nice to have the crib in the front of church. 5:00 Mass with Youth was excellent!
7. Hospitality: Martha-Christmas Open House Celebration.
8. Maintenance & Cemetery: Roy-Meeting held November 27th.
Boiler in Parish House needs repairs. Doug Young will do repairs on the Parish house. Shelf in school closet
raised for chair storage.
Lights in church changed.
City Public Works Director asked if a road should be plowed in the cemetery for funeral access.
Area by the Green door is slick due to water dripping & mold is growing on the paneling.
Railing plans are in progress.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Capital Campaign-To date: Pledges=$450,000 ($175,000 cash)
Need $700,000 to $800,000 to begin. 200 folders remain.
Tuesday January 8th leaders meet to decide how & when to contact remaining Parishioners.
Letter or phone call to those who have folders, but have not pledged.
Will contact Summer Lake people, and Alumni.
End of March contacts should be completed.
2. Rental Policy-Riverlake days can rent tables, chairs, etc. Items are not leaving the property.
3. Country Store stand approved for Riverlake days.
4. Possible Bloodmobile in the Parish Center on June 24th.
5. Updated Phone Tree received.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Group of people need to help pull wire for DSL (High Speed) connection for Faith Formation & Library
Computers.
2. Topics for next meeting: None offered.
Next Parish Council meeting is on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 7. P.M.
