Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Council Minutes

Richmond, MN  56368

 

The Parish Council met at the Parish House May 1, 2008 @ 7:00pm.

Called to order by Maxine.

Opening prayer was led by Father Stephen, The Parish Prayer.

Roll Call: Missing: Terry Niehaus

Approval of March Parish Council minutes by Roy, seconded by Jerry.

Committee Reports:

1.        Board of Education: Jackie—review written report.

Diocesan Religion Standards reviewed:  Are we addressing Catholic Social Teachings? (Religion Standards)

Accreditation: We emphasize Service in our mission statement, but do we do enough?

Golf Fund Raiser June 16th

Maintenance needs discussed, included in Roy’s report.

2.        Faith Formation: Teri

Rite of Confirmation:  5 Parishes participated.  Hospitality was great.  1 Candidate not confirmed.

First Communion: Beautiful Liturgy

Workshop for Why Catholic May 16th

Appreciation Dinner May 21st

Vacation Bible School June 9-13th

3.        Youth Ministry: Kristi—see schedule of events

Next events are NET Mass & KC breakfast

4.       Finance: Jerry & Karen—see Balance Sheet

Capital Campaign @ $714,000

5.        Gambling\Bingo: Jackie—Bingo still being held and doing ok.

Lions Club offered one Meat Raffle @ Corky’s to the school.

6.       Liturgy: Thank you to Linda Pederson (and the Pederson family) for helping with the choir during Audrey’s absence.

7.       Hospitality: Martha—next event is the Town Hall Meeting on May 18th.

8.       Maintenance & Cemetery: Roy—see report

Thank you Roger Schlangen for recycling steel from Boiler=approximately $1,925.

Speakers for church being reviewed.

2 Bazaar Stands canvases ordered from Mike’s Repair--$264/canvas.

3 contractors bidding to do cement work in cemetery—lowest bid to do the work.

 

Old Business:

1.       KC’s Update:

Motion by Kristi, seconded by Martha to accept the two plans for the Pro-Life wall plaque (back wall in church) and the Memorial to the Unborn (children’s section of the cemetery).

2.       Capital Campaign: Town Hall Update May 18

150 People at the March meeting.  Have 3 new plans, with a list of Pros & Cons for each.

3.        Parish Office Move: Val is working on bid proposals.

Aaron Barker will do the Internet & Phone.

4.       Be-Friender: Mary Bauer—Insert in the bulletin, announcement in church.

Updates at future meetings as to acceptance and response to program.

 

New Business: 

1.        Dorothy Zumwalde is working on a Grant for a defibrillator for the church, or school, or both.

Working with a woman from Ohio who will write the grant.

2.       Cash Bazaar— discussion in the community that we should look at a real Bazaar.  After further discussion, council decided to continue the Cash Bazaar.

3.       Possible Parish Mission the second week in Lent-March 2009.

4.       Riverlake Days-look at doing a Polka Mass

5.       Martha & Maxine ushered at a Funeral Mass

Should we look at the possibility of having a Funeral Pamphlet?

Need Reserve signs for the Ushers pew—Val should order.

6.       Donations:

St. Theresa’s Mission Group & Laurel Glisky donated Stainless Steel Coffee Pot.

St. Anthony’s Mission group donated a vacuum cleaner (worth $300) in the sacristy at church.

Marlene Plantenberg is interested in donating to an Automatic Coffee Pot –after discussing—too hard for Parish to maintain.  New Juice containers are needed.

7.        Quilt Bingo is August 24th.

8.        Summer Meetings & Future Meetings:

Next Parish Council Meeting:  Thursday July 10, 2008 7:00pm.

Monthly meetings to begin in September on the first Thursday of the month.
